ELYRIA, Ohio — A Lorain County karate instructor was sentenced Tuesday to six years in prison after she was convicted by a jury of sexually abusing a student. Erin Stephens, 31, of Avon Lake, was found guilty of three counts of sexual battery, all third-degree felonies, according to Lorain County Prosecutor J.D. Tomlinson. Judge Christopher Rothgery sentenced Stephens to prison and designated her as a Tier III sex offender, the highest classification under Ohio law. Stephens, who is the former owner of ATA Karate for Kids in Avon Lake, began teaching the victim when he was 10 years old, a news release says.
